ABOUT ME AND MY ART

ABOUT ME

I am a native Californian, born in Los Angeles, and I have lived in San Jose, CA since 1975.  I graduated from Long Beach State College with a BA in Geography.  My work history has primarily been in the technical support field (hardware and software) and I have worked mostly at large companies like IBM, Intel, Apple, Bank of the West, Symantec and HP.  About eight and a half years were dedicated to serving my country as an administrative officer in the US Air Force.  During that time, my assignments included being stationed in Taiwan, Korea and Japan.  I also work as a volunteer at History San Jose where I scan photographs and other documents for entry into the archival system.  I am currently working with the "Pueblo Papers", the oldest historical documents in California, dating from the early 1790s.

ABOUT MY ART

Although I have been an amateur photographer since receiving my first 35mm film camera as a high school graduation present, I didn't begin working with digital photography and creating my art until December 1999.  My first digital camera was a 1.3 megapixel Panasonic that used a 1.44 Mb floppy disk for storage.  Fortunately, the photography hardware and software have evolved tremendously since then!

A very important element in much of my work involves symmetry - if not the whole image, then various parts of it.  I also love bright colors, intricate designs and interesting textures.  Sometimes, I also add a touch of humor.

There are essentially two genres or styles in my work: "organic" and purely abstract.  The organic images clearly display recognizable objects such as leaves, rocks and water.  The abstract style provides little clue as to the subject of the original image. When looking at an image, it is often difficult for me to determine what the original image was.  And, as you might expect, there are hybrids of the two styles.

My primary goal is to create images that delight and uplift those who see them.

FOR THE CURIOUS

My current photo editing software is primarily Lightroom and Photoshop but I created many of my earlier images with ACDC Photo Editor 3.1.
